Karen E. Laine — Est. $45,000, Indianapolis

If you are a fan of home renovation shows, you’re probably well-versed in Karen E. Laine’s antics and various home styles in HGTV’s Good Bones. Karen isn’t alone in this venture as she has teamed up with her daughter Mina Starsiak in numerous renovation projects across Indianapolis, their hometown. Even before showing the rest of world their talents in this field, Karen and Mina were already taking on one project after another through their business, Two Chicks and A Hammer.

Before Karen felt her calling for home renovation, she was actually a defense attorney. But things quickly changed after Mina bought her first house and asked Karen to help her during the renovations. Since then, Karen nurtured this passion, flipping houses and keeping customers happy.

Naturally, as someone who’s an expert in this field, she also did a bit of revamping when it came to her house in Indianapolis. Karen bought a half-completed boxy house that then became her personal project. She bought the property for $45,000 and spent an additional $135,000 for renovation. The outcome is a cozy modest house with a charming back garden, an open living room and kitchen area, and hardwood floors. Karen has definitely jazzed up the place and is all smiles living in this house with her husband, Roger.
