The famous singer, musician, songwriter, and poet is one of those icons who ushered in the punk rock movement in New York City. Smith has laid her hands on the prestigious National Book Award for Just Kids, her memoir. In the year 2010, the Rolling Stone placed her at the 47th position in the list of 100 greatest musicians of all time. Smith also happens to be the recipient of the Polar Music Prize, which she won in 2011.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee has enough money under her belt to ward off a bankruptcy attorney with ease. She has taken a brief hiatus and has discontinued her world tours owing to some medical issues. The 73-year-old has her philosophy and is always optimistic about her life. This is probably the reason why she never takes a break from writing some beautiful numbers.
