Johnny Mathis – 1935
Veteran singer Johnny Mathis is a legendary artist who rose to prominence in the late 50s when several of his albums made it to the Billboard Charts and became commercially successful. He made his debut in the early 50s and started singing professionally. It was Columbia Records that gave the young Mathis a chance to showcase his talent and he didn’t disappoint.
He sang two songs namely Wonderful! Wonderful! and It’s Not for Me to Say climbed the Billboard charts successfully and Mathis landed a job in a movie right after that. Some of his romantic albums are timeless classics that helped him earn prestigious awards like Grammy Lifetime Achievement, Grammy Hall of Fame, Academy Awards, and more.
Mathis poured his heart and soul to record Johnny’s Greatest Hits album and his efforts paid off as it featured on the charts of Billboard’s top 200 albums for fifteen years. Mathis is now in his late 80s and is still healthy and active in the entertainment industry.
