Shirley Jones – 1934
Elmer Gantry won Shirley Jones an Academy Award in 1960. Aside from this memorable role, Shirley Jones also made the portrayal of Mrs. Partridge outstanding in the TV show from the 70s, The Partridge Family.
Since she was a great singer, musicals were her strong point, and in her later career, she toured the country as a singer and performed a lot. There are no plans for retirement yet; in fact, recently she was seen in the TV show General Hospital. In mid-2012, Jones played the character of Mrs. Paroo and her son played Patrick played Harold Hill, in a California Musical Theatre revival of The Music Man.
