When driving at night, it is best to avoid situations where you could be caught behind a vehicle with high beams on. Rear-view mirrors make it more difficult to see clearly because they reflect light directly into your eyes. If the mirror is tilted with a lever, the light is refracted at a slightly different angle without significantly changing the field of view.
This “dimming feature” is why the rearview mirror has one: it allows the driver to reduce the amount of light reflected in the mirror. Safety must always come first on the Autobahn, no matter what the skeptics say!
