Best Places in Italy to Live in and Enjoy a Great Retirement Life
How would you like to retire in a different country and enjoy not-so-run-of-the-mill retirement days? Have you ever dreamt of doing something different than the conventional path and living abroad in one of the most picturesque places in the world? Well, we are speaking of Italy.
Italy is a treasure trove of everything you ever wanted to see in life. Italy offers a wide variety of breathtaking places, affordable real estate, great cultural activities, and more. Here are some picturesque places in Italy that are not only easy on the eye but can offer a lot more than you ever imagined.
Lombardy
For those who have spent the better part of their professional lives saving to retire in style, then Lombardy is the place to retire in. Expats in Lombardy can’t stop gushing over the incredible cultural scene, beautiful architecture, and luxurious shops in Milan, natural beauty, and offer a drop-dead gorgeous place in Lake Como.
The real estate costs may seem a little steep as a one-bedroom apartment will set you back by EUR 950 a month. You must pay between EUR 3,300 and EUR 8,700 ( per square meter). And this would depend on how far you are to the center of the city.
Sicily
If you love a laidback city complete with the lowest living costs, then Sicily is the place to go. This island region has everything going for it, from beautiful pristine beaches to wonderful dining places. Expats in Sicily have an affinity towards the laggardly pace of life. The locals may let you know a thing or two about the noisy food and wine festivals and the other local attractions.
To rent a one-bedroom apartment, you may have to spend close to EUR 390 a month, and outside the city, you may have to cough up EUR 270. You have to roughly shell between EUR 1,280 and EUR 3,050 per square meter to buy an apartment. However, the prices would depend on how far you are from the center. This is just the place to retire if you want to be surrounded by luxurious beaches at minimum prices.
Puglia
The beauty of Puglia lies in its pristine beaches and its sumptuous local cuisine. Nothing can be more tempting than spending your retirement years swimming in the azure seas. You could also spend your time relaxing on the gorgeous beaches, sundrenched till you turn brown as an acorn. Puglia boasts of a region’s 800-kilometer coastline borders lying on the Adriatic and Ionian Seas and the Gulf of Taranto.
Tucked away in Southern Italy, Puglia boasts a relaxed and laid-back charm. It views the amazing beauty right from the charming seaside villages, gorgeous towns, and sun-dappled sand beaches. The pace of life is laidback here, and you can discover crumbling old architecture and tuck into the famous gastronomical delights. The ex-pats may find it particularly enticing that Puglia offers low living costs.
Apulia
Apulia is a melange of beautiful coastal towns and cities like Monopoli, Brindisi, and the regional capital of Bari. It has a long stretch of beautiful coastline with gorgeous smaller towns and villages to offer replete with its beauty and charm. The local Apulian people can go out of the way to make you feel comfortable as it is one of the friendliest and most welcoming places in Italy.
They are also very kind and accommodating to people who do not understand the language well. This spells great news for pensioners who are toying with the idea of moving to the area.
Unknown to its charm, tourists often give Apulia a skip. However, this region is becoming increasingly popular with pensioners as it offers retirees a relaxing experience. It also means that it offers a smaller ex-pat community. It offers fresh, local cuisine, and retirees can enjoy a delicious lifestyle. Apart from the gastronomical delights, the cost of living is one of the lowest in all of Italy.
Many places in Italy offer multiple delights for retirees, such as Tuscany, Lazio, Abruzzo, and more. If you want to retire to Italy, you can obtain long-term residence visas, which may help you live there for more than 90 days. However, this visa has a validity of 5 years. If the visa holders choose to remain here, they can renew their permits. After ten years, they can apply for citizenship. Good luck with the move!
