After Music Lady Gaga Prepares to Dominate Beauty Industry with Makeup Line
We’ve all heard of celebrities opening up their own restaurants, launching their clothing lines, and introducing their makeup line, making sure that the money they worked hard for is going into something that will become a steady stream of income long after their acting career is over.
For the most affluential members of the entertainment industry, there is one entrepreneurial path that is more attractive than the rest: starting a makeup line. For world-renowned superstars, their names are their strongest brand which is why it’s easy to erect a successful company from ground up. And it’s pretty understandable why they’re diving into the beauty business since it’s a very lucrative one that has stood the test of time.
Lucrative Business
Take Kylie Jenner as an example, a successful businesswoman of the famous reality television family, who was touted last year as the youngest self-made billionaire, thanks largely to her eponymous makeup brand, which she launched relatively recently in 2015.
It was first called Kylie Lip Kits, initially focusing on lipsticks and lip glosses, but the name changed to Kylie Cosmetics in 2016 when the brand expanded its product line to add other types of makeup items. Her half-sister, Kim Kardashian, also launched her own business called KKW Beauty and coincidentally was on Forbes’ list of richest women of 2018.
These two women are not just leveraging their status and social media stardom to attract potential customers, but they are also having fun with their businesses, by launching cosmetic collections with unique stories behind them.
In 2017, Rihanna became the first mainstream entertainer in the music industry to launch her cosmetic brand under the name of Fenty Beauty and now another big name is eyeing on shaking the industry up by launching her very own makeup line: Lady Gaga. Yup, the singer seemed to be diversifying her skills as she now taps on to one of the most profitable businesses of this era.
Lady Gaga’s Makeup Line
Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, or best known as Lady Gaga, is famous for her hits “Pokerface,” “Million Reasons,” and “The Edge of Glory,” among many others, and for starring as the struggling performer Ally in the 2018 romance drama film “A Star Is Born.” But as of late, she is keeping a huge secret from her fans – by late December 2018, the 32-year-old secretly launched a website of what was believed to be her own beauty and skincare line called Haus Beauty.
Eagle-eyed fans noticed that they can now enter using their e-mail address on HausBeauty.com, which further fueled rumors about Lady Gaga’s upcoming beauty line. The site is still not quite done yet, or maybe it’s designed to look incomplete on purpose, speaking to Gaga’s minimalistic personal style which could also reflect in the products’ packaging and design.
Upon checking the website, it seems that visitors who provided contact information will receive messages from the site, possibly when the brand officially launches or to gain exclusive access to products even prior to their release.
Hints and Teases
Many supporters see this as the assurance of the supposed brand’s release anytime soon after the Haus Beauty had been heavily reported on for the past year despite the site being rather bland and information-less. Let’s trace how far sleuths have gone into digging up their idol’s (hopefully) makeup brand – it was in May 2018 when Internet-savvy peeps observed that Lady Gaga’s Ate My Heart company applied for a trademark for Haus Beauty, which, of course, launched a shrieking spree among fans.
The filing referred to the brand as a makeup line, which made it easy to say that the Grammy award-winning singer is setting her eyes on a business involving cosmetics. That said, supporters scrambled to find details, but to no avail. Until two months later, when the trademark was granted to Haus Beauty and Haus Labs, another name applied for by Lady Gaga’s company.
Many fans thought that Lady Gaga had been elusive of details about Haus Beauty, but after the news about her company’s trademark application spread like wildfire, it became pretty clear that she is the queen of Easter eggs: she had left a lot of clues on her Instagram posts, including hashtags, but nobody had seemed to know what these were until the filing, which had put context into everything.
Just last September, Lady Gaga went at it again in teasing her fans, posting a selfie with only her bright red pout seen, with three hashtags relating to Haus Beauty. Obviously, she’s alluding to her makeup line. This as her first foray into the beauty biz, she’s in for a battle with other, apart from abovementioned, celebs, particularly singers who also launched their makeup line, including Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty, which had since expanded to lingerie as well.
